FREE proofreading services!

The Writersaurus is currently offering FREE proofreading services. Click on the graphic to find out more information.

Attention Writersaurus readers! I have recently earned a certificate in copyediting and proofreading, and am working toward creating a portfolio so I can grow my own freelancing business. Not only will this put my natural language skills to good use, but will make me a better writer in the long run.

My aspiration is your advantage, as I am currently offering my proofreading services FOR FREE. That’s right – I will proofread your work for free. All I want in exchange is your feedback – and to put your work on my resume.

Here are some types of writing that I will proofread for free:

  • Blog posts
  • website copy
  • resumes
  • short stories/essays
  • articles
  • long-form fiction/nonfiction (novels, novellas, memoirs, etc.)
  • query letters
  • academic papers
  • other forms of prose

If you’d like to take advantage of this free proofreading service, please email me at, and put ‘proofreading’ in the subject line. I will only be doing this for a couple months at the most – so please contact me ASAP if you have something you’d like me to proofread! What have you got to lose?

*At this time, I am not taking on any copyediting assignments, as I would like to build a good foundation of proofreading experience first. If you’re unsure of what the difference is between copyediting and proofreading, copyeditors tend to take a more developmental role in the creation of the final product. They will point out plot holes and other inconsistencies. proofreaders do this to a  much lesser extent, focusing mostly on errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and typos. If you’re unsure of what your manuscript needs, feel free to email me. For more info on the differences between copyediting a proofreading, please read this article from Daily Writing Tips.

While we all relish things that are free, this is one case where it can do more harm than good. The only way an online proofreading service can be free is if they have figured out a way to automate the editing and grammar correction using a computer algorithm, which is a fancy word for a set of rules.

    Hello, Thanks for the comment.
It’s very obvious that you didn’t read my post at all (reading carefully and thoroughly is the first rule of both proofreading AND commenting on blog posts ;)) because if you had, you’d realize that this service is not indefinitely free. I am proofreading for free to gain experience and references. No algorithms needed.

    Well said hdziuk!
ALSO, what you are doing is recommended by Louise Harnby so reflect upon that
As a matter of interest, did you receive any positive responses and some proofreading to do? Are you yet in a position to start charging for your services?
